Role overview

At Ayoka, we believe hospitality is an experience, not a transaction.

We’re looking for an experienced specialty café barista who genuinely cares about craft, precision, and creating memorable guest experiences. This is not a high-volume coffee chain environment. Every drink is made with intention, every guest interaction matters, and every detail contributes to the atmosphere we’re building.

If you’re passionate about exceptional coffee, ceremonial matcha, functional beverages, beautiful presentation, and thoughtful hospitality, we’d love to meet you.

Timeline: Start date ASAP

What You'll Do / Core Responsibilities

  • Delivering a best-in-class brand experience to our guests through carefully crafting our menu offering and being engaged and attentive to their needs
  • Championing Ayoka as a brand ambassador both in-store and in the community
  • Developing your passions both in and out of the store with the support of the team
  • Supporting in elevating the guest experience by working with the cafe manager and studio manager on projects and initiatives
  • Providing feedback on in-store experience to help drive sales
  • Ensuring work areas are kept clean and meet Health and Safety standards
  • Ensuring space and equipment are regularly cleaned and maintained as directed by your Cafe Manager
  • Maintaining an open, collaborative relationship with your team
  • Supporting with and participating in various store tasks as assigned by the leadership team
  • Utilizing the Point-of-Sale system to accurately and efficiently process guest transactions
  • Receiving and unpacking boxes for inventory as required (boxes can weigh 5 - 30 lbs)

Are you our next Barista?

  • You are passionate about delivering exceptional customer service
  • You love to have fun at work, and hold yourself accountable to what is required of you
  • You are self-motivated, and enjoy problem solving
  • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
  • You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
  • You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement
  • You seek the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions, with an unwavering commitment to do what is right

Preferred Experience

  • Previous café, barista, or food and beverage experience preferred.
  • Experience with manual brewing methods and coffee calibration.
  • Knowledge of coffee origins, extraction, and grinder adjustment.
  • Experience preparing smoothies, functional beverages, or health-focused café menus.
  • Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain before employment).
  • Specialty coffee certification or equivalent café training.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, positive attitude.

Expectations

  • All employees are expected to be available to work at least one weekend day, one opening shift, and one closing shift
  • You are fully accountable for and oversee the execution of all deliverables on the Barista Role and Responsibilities document
  • Under the direction of the Cafe Manager and Business Owners, you perform/complete other additional projects, duties, and assignments as required and/or by request

Availability Requirements

  • You are available for a minimum of one open, one close and one weekend shift each week
  • Your availability must reflect the needs of the business, which may change from time to time at the discretion of the Cafe Manager or Business Owners
  • Full Time -- 30-40 hours per week (5 days per week)
  • Part Time -- 10-30 hours per week (2-4 days per week)

We're building more than a café. We're creating a place where thoughtful movement, exceptional coffee, nourishing food, and intentional hospitality come together. We're looking for people who care deeply about their craft, appreciate the smallest details, and want to help build something meaningful from the very beginning.
