Based in Edmonton, this is a hands-on opportunity within a collaborative property operations team. You will take ownership of an assigned portfolio of retail properties, stay close to day-to-day site needs, and work with the broader operations group on larger maintenance and property projects.
The Right Fit
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the day-to-day care, condition, and operation of an assigned portfolio of retail properties. Reporting to the Property Manager, you will serve as the primary operational resource for your sites, completing routine maintenance and inspections, responding to property issues, and escalating work requiring additional expertise or resources.
This role suits someone who takes pride in keeping properties clean, safe, and well maintained. You are hands-on, dependable, observant, and comfortable working independently across multiple sites while staying connected to the larger operations team.
What You'll be Doing
- Take day-to-day ownership of assigned retail properties and proactively identify maintenance, safety, and operational needs.
- Complete regular site inspections, monitor vacant spaces, and address routine property issues.
- Perform minor handyman work and general maintenance across buildings, maintenance rooms, exterior areas, and common spaces.
- Maintain site cleanliness, including litter pickup, garbage areas, catch basins, and general exterior conditions.
- Monitor exterior lighting, signage, hose bibs, stormwater flow, graffiti, abandoned vehicles, and other site conditions.
- Complete routine landscaping and grounds maintenance, including lawn care, tree pruning, and general upkeep.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, incident reports, lockbox information, and other required property documentation.
- Provide initial emergency response support and assist with larger projects or portfolio coverage as required.
What You Bring to the Table
- Hands-on experience in building maintenance, property operations, facilities, construction, or a related environment.
- Practical knowledge of general building systems and confidence completing routine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Strong attention to property condition, cleanliness, safety concerns, and preventative maintenance needs.
- Ability to work independently, manage an assigned group of properties, and follow issues through to completion.
- Sound judgment in determining what you can address directly and when an issue needs to be escalated.
- Strong organization and record-keeping skills for maintenance logs, incident reports, and site documentation.
- A dependable, team-oriented approach and willingness to support projects and properties across the broader portfolio.
