Accounting Manager

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for a growing construction management organization. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting project teams with timely financial information. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, leadership experience, and a solid understanding of the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end close.
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and journal entries.
Manage cash flow, banking activities, and working capital requirements.
Monitor project financial performance, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP), percentage of completion, and project profitability.
Review subcontractor invoices, construction draws, progress billings, and holdback calculations.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for both corporate and project operations.
Ensure compliance with HST, payroll remittances, WSIB reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external accountants, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Partner with operations and project management teams to provide financial insights that support business decisions.

Qualifications:

CPA designation (or actively pursuing) is strongly preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Previous experience within the construction, real estate development, or project-based industry is required.
Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP schedules, progress billing, and holdbacks.
Experience preparing financial statements and supporting year-end audits.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Experience with construction accounting software such as Jonas, Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, or similar ERP systems is considered an asset.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across finance and operations.
