Description

The Assistant Project Manager II plays a key role in supporting Project Managers and the Program Director in the execution, oversight, and successful delivery of assigned programs. This position assists in coordinating cross-functional internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve program objectives related to cost, schedule, quality, and safety performance.

Working within an Integrated Program Team environment, the Assistant Project Manager II collaborates closely with peers, functional specialists, and project stakeholders to drive alignment and support program success. Although the role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, it requires strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to effectively coordinate activities and achieve project outcomes within the assigned scope.

The incumbent is expected to apply established project management methodologies and best practices while contributing to the continuous improvement and development of project management processes, standards, and capabilities across the team.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you’ll do

  • Assists senior members of the Program team in coordination and execution of assigned program activities and deliverables.
  • Works closely with various Functions ensuring the Program delivers on expectations.
  • Assists in generation and review of program deliverables including requests for proposal, estimates, proposals, contracts, risks and business cases.
  • Monitors weekly program metrics to measure departmental, supplier and contractor program performance and risks.
  • Produces weekly and monthly program reports that measure program performance against established goals and objectives.
  • Distributes summary reports to senior management, identifies variances from plan, and assists in developing and monitoring corrective actions.
  • Provides Program delivery support to the Project Managers and Program Director.
  • Escalates Program delivery issues to the Project Managers and Program Director.
  • Delivers work in accordance with Quality Management Systems.
  • Develops expertise in deliverables.
  • Aligns deliverables to contract requirements.
  • Displays professional curiosity and proactive leadership.
  • Progressively develops delegation skills.
  • Progressively leads on project deliverables.
  • Serves as orientation support for new APMs.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelors Degree or diploma in Engineering, Commerce, or Project Management is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction or equivalent
  • Experience working with engineering, planning or production in the shipbuilding or other complex manufacturing/construction industry.
  • Acquired CAPM and/or actively working towards PMP certification.
  • Program management and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills (written, presentation, spoken) with ability to liaise across teams/stakeholders and provide structured support to senior PM staff.
  • Experience working with project management software/tools for scheduling, reporting, and cost tracking.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate deliverables and documentation between engineering, procurement, and production.
  • Experience with document control and reporting practices within a PMO environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to liaise across teams and provide structured support to senior PM staff.

The estimated salary for this position is $99,000-$121,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
