About the Opportunity

Our client is one of the world's largest real estate developers, with a global presence spanning North America, Europe, and Asia and a track record of over 630 million square feet of development. Their Canadian operation is headquartered in the GTA and active across Western Canada, with a team that supports both operational assets and active construction projects — build-to-suit and speculative — for institutional capital partners.

The Canadian finance team is lean, experienced, and growing. This Accountant role is newly created to support the firm's continued expansion, and sits at the intersection of property accounting and construction/project accounting. You will report directly to the Controller and work closely with project teams, property managers, and operations on a daily basis.

The scope is broad and execution-focused: you'll own AR and AP deliverables, drive month-end close, prepare capital partner reporting, and ensure HST filings are accurate and on time. If you're a hands-on accountant who wants real exposure to a complex, multi-stakeholder development environment — and you want to grow within a firm that's consistently increasing its footprint — this is a strong platform to do it from.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own accounts receivable, including tenant billings, collections, and cash application
  • Provide AP back-up support, including coding payable data to ledgers
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and contribute to the full month-end close process
  • Support property and construction/project accounting across stabilized assets and active developments
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual project reporting and private capital partner reporting
  • Produce variance analysis and commentary to support internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements
  • Manage cash reconciliations and contribute to cash flow forecasting
  • Prepare and file HST returns accurately and on time, maintaining audit-ready support
  • Provide assistance to internal and external auditors during audit periods
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning cycles

What You Bring

  • Hands-on experience in property accounting and/or construction/project accounting
  • Full-cycle accounting experience including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Proficiency in Yardi — this is a must-have
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
  • Demonstrated AR experience — tenant billing, collections, and cash application
  • Comfortable operating independently in a lean, fast-moving team environment
  • Strong attention to detail with a track record of accurate, timely filing and reporting

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Jonas software
  • Background in real estate, construction, or development
  • Exposure to system improvement or implementation projects
