Our client, a growing Winnipeg-based manufacturing organization, is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join its Engineering team.
In this hands-on role, you’ll turn ideas into practical, production-ready designs. You’ll take responsibility for designing and developing mechanical products, building and evaluating prototypes, and supporting testing from initial concept through production.
Working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, you’ll solve technical challenges, refine designs based on testing and real-world feedback, and contribute to increasingly complex engineering projects.
You’ll also have the opportunity to share your technical knowledge with junior team members, provide day-to-day guidance, and help keep design, prototyping, and testing activities moving forward.
Why This Role?
Our client designs, engineers, and manufactures innovative products and technology for transportation and automotive applications.
Continued growth has resulted in significant investment in engineering, manufacturing, R&D capabilities, equipment, tooling, and technology. The organization is expanding its capabilities to support continued product development and innovation.
This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, hands-on engineering environment where you can take ownership of meaningful design work, contribute throughout the product development lifecycle, and see your designs progress from concept to production.
What You’ll Do
- Take responsibility for defined mechanical design assignments involving products, components, and assemblies, with guidance available for more complex technical work.
- Create and refine 3D models, assemblies, production drawings, and engineering documentation using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Translate product requirements into practical engineering solutions using GD&T and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Develop practical, production-ready designs while considering performance, manufacturability, quality, cost, and reliability.
- Build and evaluate prototypes and support mechanical verification and validation testing.
- Analyze testing results and real-world feedback to identify and recommend design improvements.
- Coordinate defined onsite and longer-term testing activities, document results, and communicate technical findings.
- Troubleshoot product and design issues, investigate root causes, evaluate options, and contribute practical solutions.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to resolve design and production issues.
- Support the transition of new and updated products from engineering into manufacturing.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute technical recommendations and feedback.
- Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to junior engineering team members.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and support controlled design-release and revision processes.
What You Bring
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Approximately 5–7 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, product development, engineering technology, or a related environment.
- Registration or eligibility for the appropriate professional engineering or technologist designation in Manitoba.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable CAD software, including 3D modelling, assemblies, simulation, and production drawings.
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, Design for Manufacturing principles, and controlled design-release processes.
- Hands-on experience building and evaluating prototypes and supporting mechanical testing, verification, and validation activities.
- A practical approach to mechanical design and a strong understanding of how designs translate into manufactured products.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate technical challenges, evaluate options, and develop practical solutions.
- The judgment to recognize when additional technical direction or expertise is required.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy across designs, drawings, documentation, and testing.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Ability and willingness to provide day-to-day technical support to less experienced team members.
- Experience with vibration, load, and/or optics analysis is considered an asset.
What You Can Expect
Our client continues to invest in the people, technology, equipment, and engineering capabilities required to support its growth and future product development.
Employees can expect:
- A modern, hands-on engineering and manufacturing environment with continued investment in equipment and technology.
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience and market rates.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits.
- Employer-supported health spending benefits.
- Employer-matched retirement savings.
- Generous vacation and paid sick time.
