About the Role

The Design Consultant plays a key role in supporting purchasers throughout the home customization process. This position is responsible for guiding clients through design and colour selections, accurately capturing their preferences, and ensuring clear communication between purchasers, the Construction Department, and trades. The Consultant combines strong customer service with organizational excellence and attention to detail to create a seamless and positive purchaser experience.

This is a full-time, temporary position for the period of 14 months. Standard hours of work are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled consultations with purchasers to identify their goals, preferences, and requirements during each stage of the design and colour selection process.
  • Provide timely and professional responses to purchaser inquiries via email and telephone.
  • Prepare and submit clear, accurate estimates to the Construction Department to ensure purchaser requests are fully understood and executed.
  • Assist purchasers in completing interior colour and design selections, ensuring all paperwork is accurate and processed in accordance with company timelines and procedures.
  • Coordinate with trades by ensuring required documentation is completed and submitted for ordering.
  • Review and comply with company memos, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Design Centre Manager to address issues, seek recommendations, and review documentation.
  • Work cooperatively with fellow Design Centre team members to foster a professional, supportive, and collegial environment.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • College diploma or certificate in Interior Decorating, Interior Design, Architectural Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • One to two years of experience providing exceptional customer service and managing client interactions is required.
  • Experience in a consultative sales environment, including guiding customers through product selections, upgrades, and purchase decisions, is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in interior decorating, interior design, homebuilding, or a related industry is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with a residential home builder is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints is required.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, take direction, and work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a strong commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accurate data entry skills.
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to gather, analyze, and source information as required.
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.
