Security Officers and Screening Officers – Cruise Terminal (Seasonal: May–October)

Westguard is hiring dedicated and customer-focused Security and Screening Officers for the 2026 Cruise Season at the Port of Vancouver. This role supports one of the largest passenger operations in Western Canada and requires a high level of professionalism, physical readiness, and customer service excellence. Location: Canada Place Cruise Ship Terminal

Status: Full-Time / Part-Time, Seasonal

Security Clearance Required: Ability to obtain MTSC (Marine Transportation Security Clearance)

  • Marine Transportation Security Clearance (MTSC) is mandatory.

A validRAIC or MTSCis considered an asset. If you do not currently hold one, Westguard will sponsor your MTSC application. During the hiring process, we will request a BCID or BC Driver's License, as these are the only acceptable documents for MTSC sponsorship.

  • Weekend availability is required. You will complete an Availability Form, and schedules are assigned based on operational demand and provided availability.
  • Schedules are communicated 2 weeks in advance. Any changes to availability must be communicated well in advance to ensure adequate operational planning.
  • Shift times vary significantly depending on cruise ship arrival and departure times, reliable transportation to the site is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

Security / Screening Officer at the cruise terminal play a critical role in ensuring safe, secure, and efficient passenger flow. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Passenger & Baggage Screening

  • Operating handheld metal detectors (wanding) and performing physical pat-downs in accordance with Transport Canada regulations.
  • Screening thousands of passengers per day with accuracy, consistency, and professionalism.
  • Identifying prohibited items and responding to security concerns promptly.

Access Control & Credential Verification

  • Controlling access for crew, staff, contractors, vendors, and transportation partners.
  • Verifying identification and ensuring only authorized individuals are permitted in secure areas.

Patrols & Terminal Oversight

  • Conducting 3–4 full patrols of the terminal per shift. This is physically demanding and requires sustained mobility.
  • Monitoring for safety hazards, security breaches, suspicious activity, and operational issues.

Customer Service & Crowd Management

  • Providing clear direction to passengers, crew, and visitors.
  • Assisting with general inquiries and supporting smooth passenger movement during peak volumes.

Incident Response & First Aid

  • Responding to medical incidents and emergencies within the terminal environment.
  • Providing first aid and coordinating with paramedics or onsite medical teams as needed.

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, applicants must have:

  • Valid B.C. Security Worker Licenseis an asset
  • Ability to obtain Marine Transportation Security Clearance (MTSC)
  • A validMTSC / RAICis an asset
  • BCID or BCDL for clearance processing
  • Reliable transportation to the terminalis required, especially on weekends and early-morning shifts when public transit may not be available
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to de-escalate conflict professionally and confidently
  • Comfort working independently and in changing weather conditions
  • Physical ability to perform prolonged standing, repetitive screening motions, and full facility patrols
  • Availability for early mornings, weekends, and variable shift times based on operational needs
