For positions that are full-time and permanent, recruitment bonuses include: $3,000 on start date, $3,000 at 6 months of service, $5,000 at 1 year of service and $7,000 at 2 years of service.

Reporting to the Nurse Manager, Clinics, the Respiratory Therapist (RT) is a member of the multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients with respiratory disease or other associated problems by planning, implementing and following up on care plans and respiratory procedures. The RT ensures safe client care by practicing within all legal, ethical and professional standards, and conducts various activities in support of client care such as education, orientation and professional development throughout the region.
Functions of the Respiratory Therapist include, but are not limited to:

Providing referral-based outpatient and acute care clinical respiratory services throughout Iqaluit Health Services and the Qikiqtani Region;

Assisting in intubations, mechanical ventilation of neonates, pediatrics and adults as per established policies and procedures;

Assisting on monitoring and evaluating respiratory care practice by participating in department quality assurance and various committee memberships i.e. infectious control committee and medivac committee;
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a diploma from a recognized school of respiratory therapy along with two (2) years of respiratory therapy experience in neonatal, pediatric, or adult care. The incumbent must also be registered with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists as a full active member in good standing. Basic Life Support (BSL) with annual recertification is also required. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
