DescriptionPaladin Canada is seeking an Exploration HSE Superintendent to join the Exploration team. Reporting to the Saskatoon based Safety and Training Manager and the exploration Project Manager for on-site duties, the Exploration HSE Superintendent is responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing our organization's exploration/field-related health, safety and environment programs. This role will be located on site in Northern Saskatchewan in drill seasons, and Saskatoon office when in off season. The on-site shift will be 14 days on, 14 days off. When in Saskatoon office the schedule will be Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities

  • Primary duties of this position include health, safety and environmental oversight for mineral exploration activities in Saskatchewan.
  • Compliance of exploration activities as set out in exploration work permits granted by government regulatory agencies
  • Chair the project wide safety meetings and ensure that attendance is taken and the topics are documented.
  • Act as the lead for HSE exploration management system documents
  • Liaise regularly with subcontractor’s safety personnel on site
  • Coordinate and consult with third party environmental and safety consultants as required
  • Coordinate site inspections as requested by regulatory agencies
  • Plan and organize HSE training for personnel as required
  • Inspect field operations to ensure compliance with exploration approvals and the compliance to internal processes for exploration HSE
  • Direct remediation of drill sites and other disturbances as required
  • Establish documented inspection process and tracking to support site audits and inspections
  • Monitor site activities and ensures compliance to established radiation procedures and protocols and consults with employees and contractors to ensure ALARA principles are maintained
  • Inspect equipment and fuel storage areas
  • Ensure that each drill site is inspected during drilling and upon completion, and that these inspections are documented, and photographs are taken
  • Oversee data entry for exploration into the Clew database or other database used for tracking incidents, corrective actions, incident investigations and audits
  • Prepare compliance reports for the exploration site managers including safety statistics, recommended opportunities for improvement, and other topics as required to maintain alignment with the corporate safety standard and legal and other requirements
  • Respond and render assistance to all emergency events upon being notified
  • Report all HSE matters to the exploration site management team in a timely fashion
  • Report and investigate near miss events, incidents and ensure corrective action is communicated and implemented.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 10+ years’ experience in the mining industry, including mineral exploration activities with preference on uranium exploration
  • Proven experience with multi-disciplinary teams
  • A strong focus on health, safety, environment (HSE), quality and continuous improvement
  • Familiarity across Saskatchewan regulatory processes and northern operating environments
  • Digital and systems proficiency, leveraging modern tools and technologies to support compliance, productivity, and data integrity
  • Hold valid Canadian work rights
  • Be able to successfully complete all pre-employment due diligence checks
