Reporting to the Operations Manager, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to oversee production operations within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
Position Overview
As the Operations Supervisor, you will lead a team of approximately 70 employees, overseeing the daily operations of a pork processing facility. This includes the receiving of live hogs, harvesting, evisceration, cutting, deboning, packaging, sanitation, and production activities.
You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient, and high-performing operation while ensuring compliance with all food safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily production operations, supervising salaried and hourly employees to achieve production targets.
- Foster a positive work environment through coaching, mentoring, training, and employee development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and reduce operational waste.
- Monitor production metrics and implement improvements to increase productivity and reduce costs.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with workplace safety standards and proactively addressing hazards.
- Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMP, SOPs, and all food safety and quality requirements.
- Lead corrective actions related to quality, production, and operational performance.
- Oversee sanitation and maintenance activities.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including OEE, 5S, TPM, DDS, and continuous improvement programs.
- Communicate production performance, action plans, and operational updates to leadership and production teams.
- Work closely with Production Planning, Materials Management, Finance, Human Resources, and Quality Assurance to achieve operational goals.
- Step into the Operations/Production Manager role when required.
- Troubleshoot production issues quickly to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency.
Daily Responsibilities
- Review staffing requirements and assign team members appropriately.
- Communicate daily production schedules and priorities.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with internal departments as needed.
- Maintain a strong presence on the production floor to support operations and ensure compliance.
- Review production efficiencies and make real-time operational decisions.
- Complete production, FSQA, HACCP, and operational reports.
- Ensure shift handovers are completed effectively.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Management, or a related discipline preferred.
- 5–7 years of leadership experience in food manufacturing or food production.
- Experience within a large-scale, high-speed manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, BRC, and USDA/CFIA food safety regulations.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, OEE, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and planning abilities.
- Ability to analyze production data and make sound operational decisions.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on leadership role.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with hot and cold temperatures.
- Exposure to wet and slippery surfaces, food allergens, and production equipment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and climb stairs or ladders as required.
