Job Title: Database Administrator

Work Environment

  • Location: Onsite (Ontario Public Service Office)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day
  • Assignment Type: Full-time Onsite (5 days per week)

Position Overview

The Government of Ontario is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to support the administration, maintenance, optimization, and security of enterprise database environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for database design, installation, configuration, migration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, capacity planning, and cloud-based database solutions across Oracle and SQL Server platforms. This role requires extensive experience supporting mission-critical enterprise systems in both on-premises and cloud environments while following ITIL service management practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, administer, and maintain enterprise database environments.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, migrate, and clone Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Monitor database performance and perform performance tuning, optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Administer Oracle RAC, Oracle GoldenGate, and Oracle Data Guard environments.
  • Develop and optimize PL/SQL procedures, packages, ETL processes, and SQL queries.
  • Support database environments hosted on on-premises infrastructure as well as Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Monitor database health, availability, security, and compliance.
  • Manage database incidents, problems, changes, configurations, and capacity planning using ITIL best practices.
  • Coordinate database deployments and migrations across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Maintain database security, user access, and data integrity.
  • Create technical documentation, operational procedures, and implementation plans.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to ensure reliable database services.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Database Administration.
  • Extensive experience administering Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Hands-on experience with database installation, configuration, migration, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Strong expertise in database performance tuning, optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Oracle GoldenGate, and Oracle Data Guard technologies.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience developing PL/SQL procedures, packages, ETL processes, and query optimization.
  • Experience implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Experience working with Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems.
  • Proficiency with database administration tools such as TOAD, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), and DB Artisan.
  • Knowledge of database security, access management, and data integrity.
  • Experience with Incident, Problem, Change, Configuration, and Capacity Management processes.
