Role overview

Controls & Automation Specialist-Trenton, ON

Join a growing design team that turns customer requirements into fully engineered automated machinery and custom production systems. You will own the build from idea to startup: scoping the application, choosing the equipment, designing the electrical package, writing the control software, and supporting the machine through to a running line.

Projects reach across nearly every industrial sector, so no two builds look the same. It is a strong fit for creative problem solvers who like variety, ownership, and seeing their designs come to life on the floor.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer requirements into complete automation concepts, including equipment selection and control architecture

• Produce accurate electrical designs, schematics, and panel layouts for custom automated machinery

• Develop structured, reliable PLC and HMI software that meets project standards and client expectations

• Work alongside mechanical designers, electricians, and shop personnel through machine build, integration, and testing

• Provide occasional field support, including troubleshooting, system optimization, and improvements to deployed equipment

• Take part in quoting, design reviews, risk assessments, and project planning

• Keep learning new technologies and additional brands of automation hardware

Qalifications

• Minimum 5 years in industrial electrical design, controls, and programming

• Strong PLC programming experience

• Proven experience building automated machinery from concept through commissioning

• A self starter who works well with minimal supervision and collaborates across disciplines

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; travel to client sites is required

• Degree or diploma in Automation, Controls, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a closely related field

Technical Skills

• PLC programming: Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron (must have)

• HMI development

• Electrical design, schematics, and control panel layouts

• Industrial networks: Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet

• Machine vision systems: Cognex, Keyence

• Automated cell programming: ABB, Fanuc, Kuka, UR, on machine and in virtual environment software (preferred)
