Role overview

Our Client is seeking a Financial Analyst / Accountant to support full-cycle accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis within the Government of Alberta.

The successful candidate will bring strong accounting fundamentals, advanced Excel skills, and hands-on experience supporting financial operations including AP, AR, reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

-

Prepare journal entries and support month-end close activities.

-

Assist with month-end financial reporting.

-

Perform account reconciliations and bank reconciliations.

-

Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities.

-

Maintain business partner records and capital asset information.

-

Review and analyze accruals and other trial balance accounts.

-

Support customer collections activities.

-

Perform variance analysis and investigate unusual or abnormal financial activity.

-

Analyze and interpret financial information to support business decisions.

-

Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.

-

Work with business units to gather, validate, and communicate financial information.

-

Support full-cycle accounting and financial reporting processes.

-

Identify opportunities for process improvement and support implementation.

-

Assist with internal controls, audit-related activities, and financial compliance.

-

Develop financial reports, dashboards, and analysis as required.

-

Support the finance team across a variety of day-to-day financial operations.

Mandatory Requirements

-

Bachelor s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, IT, Computer Science, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.

-

Knowledge of accounting principles.

-

Knowledge of Canadian public-sector accounting standards or related accounting frameworks.

-

Minimum 2 years of experience with financial reporting.

-

Minimum 1 year of advanced Microsoft Excel experience, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP, and similar functions.

-

Strong analytical and financial problem-solving skills.

-

Experience preparing and analyzing financial information.

-

Ability to work with multiple business stakeholders and manage competing priorities.

Nice to Have

-

Currently pursuing a CPA designation.

-

2+ years of experience with financial audits, financial controls, or related financial compliance activities.

-

2+ years of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience.

-

1+ year of SAP Finance (FI) experience, including financial postings and invoice processing.

-

2+ years supporting a team across diverse financial operations.

-

Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial dashboards.

-

Experience working in government or a public-sector environment.
