POSITION SUMMARY

A Residential Worker supports individuals in a supportive housing program, focusing on those experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and addictions. They provide assessments, education, case management, and social/recreational support while promoting independence and well-being. The role requires working both independently and as part of a team, modeling healthy behaviors and self-awareness, and applying psychosocial rehabilitation principles. All duties are carried out in alignment with CMHA’s mission, values, and relevant policies to ensure high-quality service delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Supports individuals in the housing program and the homeless:

o Service Engagement, Assessment, Education, Case Management, Social Recreation, Night Shift, Community Relations/Advocacy, and Organizational Responsibility

· Exhibits exemplary professional conduct.

· Engages in effective internal and external relationships with all staff, clients and volunteers of the organization, other organizations, and the community.

· Promotes and supports a safe work environment

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certification & Experience

· Minimum two-year diploma in a human services field related field.

· Current registration with OCSWSSW or a regulated body under the Regulated Health Professions Act, is preferred.

· Certification in First Aid/CPR, mandatory

· Mandatory certification in ASIST and Safe Food Handling (or willing to obtain within 3 months)

· Minimum one-year experience in the fields of mental health, addictions, and/or housing services preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Strong ability to work collaboratively with clients.

· Extensive knowledge of mental health, addictions, and related services.

· Proficient in screening and assessment tools.

· Knowledge of community resources and supports.

· Applies recovery-oriented and empowerment-based approaches.

· Skilled in conflict recognition and de-escalation.

· Maintains professional boundaries and emotional regulation.

· Demonstrates diplomacy and advocacy skills.

· Makes sound clinical judgments and communicates effectively.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

· Able to work independently and as part of a team.

· Proficient in computer and agency software applications.

· Practices and models effective self-care.

· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Other

· Acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire and to be maintained throughout employment.

· Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.

· Requires heavy lifting, reaching, repetition and bending.

· Ability to move, ascend, descend, and position self from floor and back up for prolong periods.

· Valid G driver’s license, proof of applicable insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle.
