EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

1 Full-Time (Existing) Position

Hostel Worker

We provide primary health care through a range of options including prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Our team includes health professionals, educators and support workers representing both traditional Indigenous and contemporary models of care, and uses wholistic health and community development concepts.

This is a full-time position involving shift work, including weekends. The hostel operates 24/7 and provides a supportive environment for clients and family members requiring overnight accommodations; while accessing health care services in Kenora. Maintaining cleanliness of the facility is a requirement of the position. The position may also involve client and family crisis, and facilitating access to other WNHAC or community resources.

NOTE: Indigenous traditional practices involving burning sacred medicines including tobacco, sweetgrass, sage and cedar and other cultural protocols occur regularly within our work setting.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete client intake and assist with accessing needed services, including health care, cultural supports, meals, and transportation.
  • Work together as a team to maintain a safe, comfortable and clean facilities, and an adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Prepare and complete documentation, including statistics and reports, to ensure appropriate accountability and effective communication.
  • Support residential clients in a variety of ways such as role modeling, teachings, demonstrations and working alongside towards developing clients daily living skills.
  • Other duties as required. In extenuating situations or in the event of an emergency, may be redeployed to ensure provision of essential services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum OSSD or equivalent; some experience working in the health care field an asset
  • Sound understanding of Indigenous culture, values, and perspectives;
  • Experience working in an Indigenous organization; ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin is a definite asset
  • Good oral and written communication skills (including computer skills)
  • Good interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Ability and willingness to work shift hours and weekends
  • Current criminal/vulnerable person’s records check
  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development relevant to job requirements
  • Positive attitude and capacity to act as a healthy lifestyle role model

Salary: Salary: $51,714-$67,476 with excellent benefits, including HOOPP pension plan. Salary is based on education and experience.
