Reporting to the Chief Election Officer (or Deputy), the Election Supervisor oversees the work of Election Officials at an assigned voting place during local government elections to ensure an accessible and positive experience for voters. The role ensures voting processes are administered fairly, consistently, confidentially, and in compliance with applicable legislation, municipal procedures, and the direction of the Chief Election Officer.

Applicants must be available September 24th, 2026, for training in the evening and October 17th, 2026, for General Voting Day and potentially available for advance poll dates of either October 7th or 10th, 2026.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and support election officials at assigned voting place; provide instruction and clarification to Election Officials on procedures, voter service expectations, ballot handling, and documentation requirements.
  • Coordinate setup, operation, and closing of assigned voting location.
  • Monitor staff attendance, task assignment, breaks, and workflow during voting hours.
  • Respond to procedural questions, voter concerns, and routine issues, escalating complex or sensitive matters to the Chief Election Officer or designate.
  • Ensure ballot accountability, secrecy of the vote, and secure handling of election materials, supplies, and records.
  • Support accessible voting processes and help ensure voting places are welcoming, safe, and inclusive for all electors.
  • Troubleshooting equipment or supplies used in the voting process, where applicable.
  • Attend to the voting machine and assist voters as required.
  • Oversee closing procedures, ballot and materials reconciliation, packaging, and secure transfer of election materials back to the Election Office.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, neutrality, and professionalism at all times.
  • Perform related duties as assigned in support of election administration.

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Completion of grade 12 and with strong knowledge and experience with the election process and previous supervisory experience
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Ability to act with strict political neutrality, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm, impartial and professional when addressing issues or interacting with public
  • Proficient technical skills for setting up voting machines

This position is excluded from the CUPE Local 498 bargaining unit. Successful applicants will be paid $50 for training and $30.00 to $35.00 per hour during polling, plus 4% in lieu of vacation and holiday pay.
