Role overview

A well-established organization located in the Greater Toronto Area is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join its Human Resources team. This role is responsible for managing end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing, maintaining payroll records, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within payroll systems and processes.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Dayforce Payroll, excellent attention to detail, and a solid understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full-cycle processing of bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, deductions, banking information, leaves of absence, vacation pay, and other payroll-related updates.
  • Process payroll adjustments, validate employee data, and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate employee payments.
  • Perform payroll audits and reconciliations, including payroll registers, general ledger entries, deductions, and payroll-related accounts.
  • Generate payroll reports and provide accurate payroll data and analysis to support management reporting and audit requirements.
  • Ensure timely processing and remittance of payroll deductions, benefits, and government-related requirements.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including T4/T4A preparation, tax reporting, and reconciliation processes.
  • Review payroll systems, procedures, and workflows to identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate employee records within payroll and timekeeping systems, ensuring data integrity.
  • Provide support and guidance regarding payroll policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments to resolve payroll-related inquiries and issues.
  • Perform additional payroll and administrative duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including full-cycle payroll processing.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Dayforce Payroll is required.
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Experience processing payroll for both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audits.
  • Ability to manage confidential employee information with professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
