Who We AreKichton Construction LP is the Fort McMurray based Heavy Civil entity within the Kichton Group of companies which has been operating since 1963. Kichton Construction LP commenced operations in 2019 as the industrial division of the Kichton Group to serve the Energy and Mining Industries throughout North America. Since inception, KCLP has grown sustainably and exponentially, starting with 30 experienced team members in 2019, to now over 400 team members and over 300 pieces of heavy equipment. KCLP is proud to continue operating alongside our Community Partner, the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, as part of our NOHA/Kichton Joint-Venture.
The RoleWe are seeking several Subcontract Heavy Equipment Technicians with their own service trucks to work at the Fort Hills Mine in Fort McMurray, AB. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience running their own truck and subcontracting to companies that work in the AB oilsands working on heavy equipment that is involved in reclamation, overburden and haul truck road maintenance. He/she has a truck that is fully equipped with tools and diagnostic equipment to work on site fixing a variety of equipment (mostly CAT). This position reports into the Maintenance Superintendent.
Location/Job Details
- Fort Hills, Fort McMurray
- 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off or 2 weeks on, one week off.
- 12 hours per day. Day and night shifts.
- 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
- Fast-paced, busy work environment.
- Repetitive bending and lifting up to 50 pounds required.
- Travel and working outside required in various weather conditions
- Own fully equipped truck and tools required.
- Have WCB coverage and 5 million dollar liability insurance.
Compensation/Benefits
- $120.00 to $140.00 per hour
Responsibilities/Job Duties
- Troubleshoot and repair various types of Heavy Equipment
- Complete detailed service and repair reports at the end of each shift.
- Retrieving, decoding, fault codes on equipment
- Diagnose and decide if vehicle repairs are warranty or above your scope of repairs.
- Responsible for sourcing part numbers and working with the Parts Department to order parts and filters for repairs.
- Complete daily documentation thoroughly, including: FLHAs, timesheets, pre and post inspections of all tools and equipment, etc.
- Review, understand, and follow all safe work practices and procedures.
- Report incidents, near misses, equipment damage, and hazards to Supervisors immediately.
- Positively participate in all toolbox talks and all applicable company/site meetings.
Education/Qualifications/Training
- 10+ years working in a simar role preferrable in a mine setting.
- Journeyperson certificate required.
- Experience troubleshooting.
- Must be proficient in English, both verbally and written.
- Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a good driver's abstract.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Must provide own rig and tools. Those with certain cranes will be compensated another $5 - $10 per hour.
- WHMIS 2015 certification (can be provided for free through ACSA).
- Up to 14 hours of orientations and training required to access site.
- Preemployment D & A required.
