Registered Occupational Therapist – Personal Injury Rehabilitation

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide assessment, rehabilitation, and functional support to clients who have sustained injuries through motor vehicle accidents.

The Occupational Therapist will assess clients' physical, cognitive, psychological, and functional abilities and develop individualized rehabilitation plans to support recovery, independence, community participation, and return to work where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments of clients following personal injury.
  • Evaluate the impact of injuries on activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, mobility, productivity, leisure, and community participation.
  • Identify clients' functional limitations, restrictions, strengths, and rehabilitation needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans based on assessment findings and client goals.
  • Provide occupational therapy interventions to improve functional independence and participation in daily activities.
  • Assess clients' home environments and recommend appropriate safety modifications, adaptive equipment, and assistive devices.
  • Provide education and training to clients, caregivers, and family members regarding injury management, energy conservation, pacing, and functional strategies.
  • Assess functional abilities related to employment and provide recommendations regarding modified duties, workplace accommodations, and graduated return-to-work plans where appropriate.
  • Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans based on clinical findings and functional outcomes.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, case managers, insurers, employers, and other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
  • Prepare accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate assessment reports, treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries.
  • Provide professional recommendations regarding rehabilitation services, equipment, attendant care, home modifications, and other supports when clinically indicated.
  • Maintain complete and confidential client records in accordance with applicable legislation, professional standards, and organizational policies.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, referral sources, insurers, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary discussions when required.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education and ongoing clinical development.

Qualifications

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Professional liability insurance as required.
  • Experience in rehabilitation, personal injury, motor vehicle accident, or community-based practice is an asset.
  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and report-writing skills.
  • Knowledge of functional assessment, rehabilitation planning, and return-to-work principles.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation may be required for community-based assessments.

Professional Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist is expected to practice within their scope of practice and comply with applicable Ontario legislation, professional standards, ethical requirements, privacy requirements, and employer policies.

The OT will provide objective, evidence-informed clinical opinions and recommendations based on the client's presentation, assessment findings, medical information, and functional needs.
