The Opportunity
McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Brownfield Intermediate Environmental Professional or Environmental Engineer to join our growing Environmental team in Vancouver, Surrey, or Langley, BC.
This role is ideal for a professional with experience in contaminated sites, brownfield redevelopment, and environmental consulting who is looking to take the next step toward project management. We're seeking someone with strong technical skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to mentor junior staff. The position offers a mix of field and office work, with growing responsibility for project delivery and client relationships.
Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of environmental scientists, engineers, hydrogeologists, planners, and technical specialists, you will support environmental assessment, remediation, and brownfield redevelopment projects throughout British Columbia and Western Canada while contributing to the growth of our environmental practice.
What You’ll Do
Project coordination including set-up of field programs, preparation for project work, health and safety plans, budget and schedule management and subcontractor management.
Lead and support Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Detailed Site Investigations (DSIs), remediation projects, groundwater monitoring well installation and sampling programs, and hydrogeological field investigations.
Collect, compile, analyze, and interpret environmental data, and prepare technical reports, recommendations, and regulatory submissions.
Support contaminated sites projects involving risk assessments, remediation planning, regulatory approvals, and closure strategies.
Coordinate with clients, regulators, contractors, laboratories, and internal project teams to ensure successful project execution.
Mentor and support junior environmental professionals and field staff.
Assist Project Managers with scope development, resource planning, budget tracking, schedule management, and client relationships.
Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, budgeting, and identifying opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
Develop project management skills with the goal of progressing into a Project Manager role.
What You’ll Bring
Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related discipline.
5+ years of experience in contaminated sites, brownfield redevelopment, environmental consulting, or a related field.
Eligibility for or current registration as a P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., R.P.Bio., or other relevant professional designation.
Experience coordinating projects, managing field programs, and supporting project delivery from planning through reporting.
Experience leading Phase I and Phase II ESAs, contaminated sites investigations, groundwater and soil sampling programs, and remediation projects.
Strong understanding of British Columbia's contaminated sites regulatory framework, including experience preparing technical reports and regulatory submissions.
Proven ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to team and project success.
Experience supporting proposals, developing scopes of work, and building client relationships.
Interest in taking on greater project leadership responsibilities and growing into a Project Manager role.
Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to participate in field work as required.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $115,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
