Position Summary
We are seeking a licensed 309A Journeyperson Electrician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment in accordance with applicable legislation, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, workplace safety requirements, and company standards. The successful candidate will perform electrical work on commercial, industrial, institutional, agricultural projects while maintaining a strong commitment to quality, safety, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, equipment, and systems.
- Plan new and modified electrical installations in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and future maintenance requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
- Prepare sketches and layouts for wiring and equipment installation as required.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit and cable support systems.
- Install concealed and exposed wiring before completion of walls, ceilings, and flooring where applicable.
- Splice and terminate electrical conductors using approved methods and materials.
- Install and connect lighting systems, receptacles, motors, pumps, sensors, generators, feeders, control panels, relays, switches, circuit breakers, and other electrical equipment.
- Install grounding and bonding systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Test electrical circuits and equipment using appropriate testing instruments to verify safety, continuity, and proper operation.
- Diagnose electrical faults and perform repairs or replacements as required.
- Observe the operation of installed equipment to identify required adjustments, maintenance, or repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and report deficiencies or safety concerns.
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Health & Safety
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and all company health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Properly use and maintain required personal protective equipment and safety equipment.
- Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, and near misses immediately.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, and other job-specific safe work practices.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and operate tools and equipment safely.
- Participate in required health and safety training and cooperate in maintaining a safe workplace.
- Exercise due diligence to protect the health and safety of yourself and others while performing assigned duties.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician Certificate of Qualification.
- Valid driver's licence with the ability to travel to job sites as required.
- College diploma, trade school education, or equivalent electrical apprenticeship training.
- Minimum 2–10 years of related electrical experience following certification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and applicable health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
Experience with:
- Electrical conduit installation
- Cable tray and ladder tray systems
- Pumps and motors
- Sensors and control systems
- Feeders and generators
- Industrial electrical equipment
Working Conditions
The successful candidate must be able to:
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Work at heights using appropriate fall protection equipment.
- Work in environments that may include elevated temperatures, dust, or noise.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment in accordance with safe work practices.
- Stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
- Use personal protective equipment as required.
- Work overtime, on-call, and occasional weekends when operational requirements necessitate.
Employment Requirements
Employment is conditional upon:
- Being legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Maintaining a valid Ontario Class G driver's licence throughout employment.
- Remaining bondable.
- Complying with all company policies, including health and safety requirements.
Compensation
- Hourly rate (range from $36.00 - $46.00 per hour).
