Role overview

Job Summary:

The Software Developer role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and ETL applications to support Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions. The successful candidate will work onsite full-time, collaborating with IT professionals throughout the software development lifecycle to deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions using a variety of cloud and database technologies.
Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and expand data pipelines involving extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) activities.
  • Translate technical system specifications into tested, working applications including detailed programming and unit testing.
  • Resolve and troubleshoot technical issues during software operation, including implementation, conversion, and migrations.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize ETL scripts and database backend applications for data warehousing and business intelligence.
  • Collaborate effectively with development teams and communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation such as source-to-target mappings, data model diagrams, and design documents.
  • Ensure applications comply with standards, best practices, and scalability requirements.
  • Provide post-implementation support and conduct design walkthrough sessions.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure technologies: Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, and Power BI.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies: Amazon Aurora, Amazon Relational Database Service, Glue, OpenSearch.
  • Strong ETL development skills including scheduling, dependency logic, data integration, cleansing, and analytics.
  • Proficiency in data modeling and design principles for data marts and data warehouses.
  • Database management, administration, and complex SQL query construction with performance tuning.
  • Experience with Git and source control strategies.
  • Ability to elicit, document, and validate business requirements.
  • Strong communication skills for clear verbal and written interaction.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle from development through testing and delivery.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and related standards.
  • Experience designing visual dashboards, KPIs, and canned reports (scheduled and ad-hoc).
  • Programming skills in C#, API development, and functions.
  • Experience writing scripts in PowerShell and other scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with rapid application development (RAD) methodologies.
  • Experience with middleware, gateways, and product installation script modification.
  • Ability to provide user and system documentation.

  • Core Technical Skills (50%): Proficiency in Microsoft Azure, AWS, ETL development, data modeling, and database management.
  • Other Technical Skills (35%): Dashboard design, programming languages, scripting, source control, and full software development lifecycle experience.
  • Communication Skills (10%): Ability to elicit, document, validate requirements and communicate effectively.
  • Standards and Best Practices (5%): Knowledge of AODA and related regulations.

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL and database backend applications.

Must Haves:

  • Onsite availability five days per week, 7.25 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, Power BI, and AWS data services.
  • Strong ETL and data warehousing development expertise.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver within the software development lifecycle.
