Contract Position

Family Transition Place is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our team as Counselling Supervisor - this is a contract position for 18 months. Reporting to the Director of Client Services, this position will provide strategic leadership and supervisory oversight for the Counselling team.

Purpose of the Position:

  • To provide support with program planning, clinical supervision, staff management and program administration for the following Counselling Programs: Crisis/Intake, Sexual Assault, Woman Abuse, Addiction, Rural Response, Parent and Child, as well as any other programs that may fall under the Counselling Program
  • To ensure the development and promotion of individual and community activism to end violence against women
  • To support the Director of Client Services

Responsibilities:

Providing Support to all Staff across the Counselling programs:

  • Provides debriefing, consultation and support in relation to client situations
  • Provides ongoing clinical supervision of counsellors working within regulatory body requirements and organizational policy and procedures
  • Ensures staff are submitting timely, appropriate and accurate information to inform statistical reporting of service delivery in compliance with funder and agency requirements
  • Provides on-call coverage and emergency back-up as needed
  • Supports acts of individual advocacy on behalf of clients
  • Provide staff orientation to staff ensuring mandatory trainings are completed
  • Provides input to the Director to inform performance appraisals/management as needed
  • Support staff in identifying ongoing learning and professional development needs in conjunction with the Director

Performing Administrative Duties

  • Conducts counselling Caseworks audits as deemed necessary by the Director through regular consultation with staff
  • Oversees the planning and development of the Fall and Winter/Spring Group Counselling Schedule/Flyer
  • Assist with research and prepare documents in relation to Ministries/funders
  • Available to back fill the Director as necessary
  • Initial review of summary reports and flag issues or errors to the Director as applicable
  • Coordinate case management across agency for external consultants, including providing necessary reports and follow up invoicing
  • Approve and sign off timesheets; log sick time information

Qualifications and Core Competencies:

  • Masters level counselling-focused degree or equivalent experience
  • Registered with a counselling / social work college or regulatory organization required or in process of registering
  • No previous violations of breach of professional practice standards
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or coordination experience
  • Knowledge of issues of violence against women and children
  • Knowledge of Sexual Assault service delivery and services
  • Feminist leadership skills
  • Administrative, supervisory and leadership experience
  • Understanding the links between violence, trauma, addictions and mental health issues
  • Ability to incorporate into counselling an anti-oppression and women centred framework using a trauma focused lens/approach
  • Knowledge of a variety of therapeutic modalities and intervention strategies
  • Knowledge of Global Appraisal of Individual Needs Short Screener (GAIN SS)
  • Sound clinical decision making skills to help assess risk and implement best practice
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within the context of a team structure and atmosphere
  • Decision making, including dealing with job related stress, guided by professional standards of practice
  • Ability to identify risk related to client services and taking appropriate action in consultation with the Director
  • Proven ability to research and seek out best practices for service delivery, funding and innovative models
  • Strong written and oral communication, case management and report writing skills
  • Ability to understand technology including, but not limited to: support scheduling, invoicing, and scanning/uploading documents
  • Works from an ARAO/Intersectionality lens
  • Strong knowledge of agency policies and procedures
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries

Employment Requirements:

  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance Certificate and maintaining of clearance requirements during course of employment
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

Physical / Mental Effort:

Based on work schedule/flow the frequency of the following tasks will vary according to need:

  • Changing priorities and work flow to accommodate needs of others, and imposed deadlines, able to be flexible
  • Multi-tasking and working under pressure to meet imposed deadlines while performing daily duties
  • Reviewing others’ work for accuracy
  • Using interpersonal skills, empathy and acute listening skills
  • Using good problem solving and crisis management skills

Working Conditions:

  • Monday - Friday 8:30 - 4:30, some evenings and weekends possible
  • Some on call after hours
  • Attend evening meetings and weekend events as necessary

Salary:

  • $63,536.00 - $74,520.00 annually
