Position Overview

The Strategy Management Specialist is responsible for supporting and assisting the Director with strategy management, strategy execution and strategic project management. The specialist will actively support Senior Leadership with the development, maintenance and communication of the organization’s Strategic Plan and the associated performance metrics, implementation roadmap and annual organizational strategic goals. Using a project portfolio management approach, the role coordinates the strategic initiatives outlined in the strategic plan, the rolling detailed three-year implementation plan and annual strategic goal; conduct regular capacity assessments, identify interdependencies and risks among strategic projects, and collaborates with project sponsors and teams to address any issues that arise.

Additionally, the Specialist supports ongoing project and change management support for enterprise risk management, business continuity, accreditation and integrated quality, safety and risk planning processes and for facilitating the integration of results into the annual operational improvement priorities for approval by senior leadership.

What you will do:

Strategy Management (20%)

  • Supports the development, refinement and communication of the organization’s Strategic Plan (including vision, mission, values, strategic goals and objectives); implementation roadmap and associated performance metrics.
  • Conducts environmental scans and strategic analyses to inform leadership decision-making.
  • Supports a SLT-approved strategy governance framework that supports strategic alignment and accountability.

Strategy Execution (40%)

  • Supports the development, refinement and communication of the detailed rolling 3-year implementation plan that translates the high-level strategic plan implementation roadmap into an actionable short-term plan.
  • Establishes a project portfolio management approach to managing the strategic initiatives to support cross-functional coordination and capacity planning.
  • Supports Senior Leadership-led process for confirming and communicating the annual strategic goals and ensures that it is integrated with the process for prioritizing, selecting and resourcing the annual operational improvement and risk management initiatives. Supports project performance monitoring by building and managing processes and tools for measuring, monitoring, and communicating progress, including preparation of quarterly and annual performance reporting.
  • Builds and delivers tools, training and guidance on strategy execution to build organizational understanding, capacity and alignment.

Project Management (40%)

  • Provides project and change management support needed for the effective implementation of strategic initiatives and prioritized operational projects by the respective Executive Sponsors, Project Leads and cross-functional Project Teams.
  • Creates project and change management tools and training to support consistent execution of initiatives and capacity building for team members.
  • Supports Executive Sponsors and Project Leads to develop appropriate project charters, including work plans, stakeholder engagement plans, resource plans, performance measures, risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Establishes a process for tracking and monitoring progress on strategic initiatives and, leveraging reporting from Executive Sponsors and Project Leads, produces regular status updates, risk reports, performance dashboards reports.
  • Facilitates lessons learned and sustainability planning conversations to ensure outcomes are embedded and processes are transitioned into ongoing operations.
  • Project Manages the following planning and reporting process to ensure timely and effective integration of results into the process for confirming the annual organizational strategic goals:
  • Enterprise risk management plan
  • Business continuity plan
  • Integrated client quality, safety and risk plan
  • Accreditation readiness and continuous quality improvement

What you will bring:

  • Master’s degree in health administration/business management or a related field; a combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Five (5) years’ experience, preferably in the healthcare, not-for-profit, community/social service, or similar organizations, leading strategic planning and strategy execution, including facilitation, project and change management.
  • Ability to conduct environmental scans and synthesize complex information to inform strategic decision‑making.
  • Strong ability to assess organizational capacity, trade‑offs, and risks to support prioritization and sequencing of strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategic direction into clear goals, objectives, performance metrics, and execution plans.
  • Strong ability to interpret data, develop appropriate performance measures/reports, and track progress toward strategic goals.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, including report writing and executive-level briefings.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to implement solutions.
  • Skilled at leading project and change initiatives with empathy and clarity.
  • Good computer skills in MS Word, MS Access, Excel and PowerPoint, project management tools, data visualization tools and other appropriate software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, dynamic and multi-disciplinary team environment.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSE/AFFILIATIONS/MEMBERSHIPS/CERTIFICATES:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or PROSCI/ACMP Certified Change Management Professional is required.
  • Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation is an asset.

Other Information

The position is full time, 40-hour week, Monday to Friday; nonstandard hours may be required including periodic nights and weekends. The work location is primarily situated at Head Office (Dufferin/Lawrence) & periodic travel within the GTA will be required.
