Job Purpose:

To oversee the Imports & Exports departments and coordinate international imports through air, ocean, and rail.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Support company Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) by proactively contributing to initiatives that drive strategic goals and organizational successLive our company core values and support a well-organized, respectful, and service-focused work environmentSupervise import & export department staff workload and assist them with all aspects of their dutiesQuote international agents and commercial clientsArrange new freight for commercial clientsMonitor, organize & manage incoming emails to department mailboxTrack import & export shipments and arrange the necessary customs clearance & deliveriesProcess charges for shipments and review any billing/charge discrepanciesCorrespond with international agents and update them on their shipments and any questions regarding import to CanadaProvide direction with routing of shipments and assist team members with their routingProvide support and communication with problem shipmentsEnsure timely billing of all filesAssist other operations departments as neededCoach, mentor, lead and develop team members to support personal growth and development I.E; fully cross train team membersHelp resolve employee concerns, disputes and handle escalations with the support of the managerBe an advocate for company initiativesParticipate in the development and implementation of KPI goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of the import & export departments as per management directionEvaluate employee performance and provide constructive feedbackEnforce company policies & proceduresParticipate and complete employee appraisalsParticipate in onboarding new employees as neededExternal coaching opportunities and ongoing support from management will be available to support personal and professional growth

Professional & Educational Background:

10+ years in transportation or freight forwarding experience requiredPost Secondary education in Supply Chain Management considered an assetKnowledgeable in CargoWise or SoluShip considered an assetExperience working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and EDI SystemsStrong knowledge of Canada & USA Customs cross border practices & proceduresGeneral knowledge of container port operations, rail line operations and airline cargo terminal operations considered and assetCertified and knowledgeable in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (Air, Sea, Ground) considered an asset
